RMC Sport report that Spanish side Atletico Madrid are in active negotiations with PSG Sporting Director Leonardo about the possibility of signing Edinson Cavani this month, despite reportedly already having a pre-contract agreement with the Uruguayan for when he leaves the French capital at the end of his current deal in June.
The French outlet claims that Cavani’s agreement with Atletico is actually a 2.5 year contract which is only currently valid if he were to join them this month.
The Spanish club wants to beat competition from Chelsea and Manchester United, who are both interested in acquiring the 32-year-old on a free transfer in summer, by offering PSG a transfer fee to take him off their hands in January.
Talks to this effect are currently ongoing, but the Paris club does not want to let their highest goalscorer in club history leave in the middle of the season.
This is a newsflash for Cavani’s camp, because at the end of 2019, it was more the player who was really wanting to go to the end of his Paris contract. His lack of recent playing time had under Thomas Tuchel since convinced him to be open to the idea of a January departure.
RMC confirm Manchester United and Chelsea interest in Cavani, but as of yet only for the summer window.
