Speaking in an interview with RMC, Chelsea and France striker Olivier Giroud discussed his future with the London club and was asked about a possible adventure in the MLS.

“The MLS for my family my kids who speak English, it would be interesting. In one year? Two years? I don’t know when. But of course I would be open to a final challenge… it is not just the MLS (that could interest me).”

“There were no discussions because the club (Chelsea) activated the one-year extension that they had the option to do, because they were happy with what I brought to the club. It even went further than that, there is a genuine belief in me. Aside from that, it was not necessarily my desire to leave and I never really asked myself the question about a possible departure.”

The LFP announce the abolition of the Coupe de la Ligue competition

The French league governing body, the LFP, have this afternoon announced the abolition of the yearly league cup competition, the Coupe de la Ligue with immediate effect, starting next season.

The LFP, in a surprising turn of events, has announced its immediate suspension in a decision that will: “lighten the competition schedule, give players more recovery time and offer an additional place in the European Cups via the Ligue 1 classification at the end of the 2020-2021 season.”

The LFP adds that they reserve the right to reinstate the competition at any point – multiple sources indicate that the decision was made following a lack of bids for the TV rights.

L’Équipe report that a preliminary investigation has been opened against BeIN Sports pundit and journalist Brahim Thiam for allegedly acting illegally and posing as an agent during this summer’s transfer window.

The agent of 32-year-old central defender Yunis Abdelhamid, Alain Gauci, formally complained to the French Football Federation about Thiam’s behaviour via letter, alleging that Thiam had ruined his transfer window strategy for his client by calling several clubs about the player and acting as if he was a FFF registered and licensed agent.

Matthieu Bourrette, a prosecutor in Reims, confirmed that this legal matter was ongoing but that no conclusion has been reached in any capacity as of yet.

Lyon were open to ridding Memphis Depay to AS Roma on deadline day

L’Équipe reported earlier this week that Ligue 1 side Lyon had been open to negotiate a summer transfer deadline day deal with AS Roma after the Italian side came knocking for Dutch international attacker Memphis Depay.

However, the player in question quickly turned down the proposal, despite OL being open to negotiating Depay’s departure. Les Gones had made contact with multiple possible replacements, the outlet claims, as further proof of OL’s openness to ridding of the Dutchman who has been heavily criticised for his inconsistent performances and supposed attitude problems since he joined the Ligue 1 club from Manchester United in 2017.

Owing to the player’s refusal, Roma moved to conclude the loan signing of Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Arsenal instead.
