OGC Nice President Jean Pierre Rivère met with Mario Balotelli and Mino Raiola in Nice, but Les Aiglons have yet to make a formal offer for the player, according to Nice Matin.
The 26 year old is looking for a way to revive his career. Italian media outlets place OGC Nice as the favourites to land the striker, even though Les Aiglons have yet to make a formal offer for the player.
Palermo, Balotelli’s birthplace, have however made a proposition to Liverpool for the bad-boy striker.
The player’s annual salary at Liverpool, between €5m and €6m, poses a serious problem for Les Aiglons.
But as with Nice’s transfer policy generally speaking, there are often so many reasons to say no to a deal, yet Les Aiglons have the foresight to be crazy enough to say yes and transform a player’s career à la Hatem Ben Arfa.
The club’s new American-Chinese investors wanted to make the French international a cornerstone of their new project and were extremely disappointed to see Ben Arfa choose to join PSG earlier this summer.
Now they are looking to Mario Balotelli to become an icon for their new project. The player’s brand value would undoubtedly bring much attention to Les Aiglons.
As a result, OGC Nice President Jean Pierre Rivère is attempting to sign the player on loan, with a possible option to buy, according to the local media outlet.
So far, no success. Not that the player is not interested, quite on the contrary, but the financials are extremely difficult for OGC Nice.
In the meantime, the Côte D’Azur club continues to negotiate with Al Hilal for the possible return of attacking midfielder Carlos Eduardo. Their latest proposition was €8.5m. A deal could be reached at €10m, but Nice have been clear that their most recent offer is ultimately their final one.
Eduardo himself wants to return to Nice, and that could be decisive in the outcome of those negotiations.
