Megan Thee Stallion's Thermal Manicure Is Hot With a Capital H

Megan Thee Stallion's manicures are always it — typically super long, full of gorgeous, bright colors, and in a lipstick shape. She's no stranger to switching it up either, with eye-catching designs like the baby blue French manicure with sheer blue tips or the blue, green, and yellow ombré set she debuted in February. The rapper has consistently displayed her manicured acrylic nails on Instagram and her latest set is cobalt blue with colorful thermal art.

Thee Stallion has been traveling a lot lately to perform her hits in different cities and countries, and she wore this manicure at the Atlanta Music Midtown festival. On September 19, she posted an Instagram carousel featuring two close-ups of the nails, plus a few other pics of her performing on stage. Like many of her manicures, these nails are long and unique. On top of the vibrant blue that forms the base of the set are colorful, mismatched blobs that resemble thermal heat imaging.

The blue and orange in the nails even match the colors of the short-sleeve crop top she performed in. This time around she went for a more subtle lipstick shape with a slightly angled tip. To accessorize, she chose several vivid Y2K-esque rings that complement the manicure.

It has only been two days but Thee Stallion has already moved on to her next nail set, which she posted on her Instagram Story, and it's just as good. The thermal nail art has been replaced by a French manicure with a yin and yang design on the tips in two complementing blue hues. Keep the inspo coming, Meg.

ZnO nanoparticles against biofilm and bacteria

A new study has evaluated the in vitro efficacy of green synthesised ZnO nanoparticles against biofilm and virulence of Serratia marcescens.

Zinc oxide reduced into nanosized exhibits antibacterial activity due to the interaction of ZnO with the cell surface and inside of the bacteria making them adaptive candidate for antibacterial activity. ZnO nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) synthesised using plant extract and their biomolecules makes them a safer, non-toxic and bactericidal solution against pathogenic bacteria. Till date, only few research articles are published on analysing the antibiofilm and anti-virulence activity of ZnO NPs synthesised using Ruellia tuberosa extract. A new study was now focused on synthesising ZnO NPs using Ruellia tuberosa and efficacy to inhibit biofilm formation and virulence factor of Serratia marcescens.

Efficacy of green fabricated ZnO NPs

ZnO NPs at the concentration of 100 μg/mL showed highest antibacterial activity by reducing S. marcescens growth upto 4-fold in comparison to untreated bacteria (1.8 OD600nm). ZnO NPs also showed 50% of inhibition of biofilm formation 25 μg/mL concentration. Microscopic analysis revealed the phenotypical change in the biofilm matrix formation after treating with >25 μg/mL of ZnO NPs. Prodigiosin, a quorum sensing regulated factor of S. marcescens was also inhibited >70% at 100 μg/mL concentration of ZnO NPs. Therefore, the present study shows the efficacy of green fabricated ZnO NPs to inhibit the growth, biofilm, and virulence factor of S. marcescens.

The study has been published in Progress in Organic Coatings, Volume 166, May 2022.

The Highlighter Instagram Star Sierra Furtado Swears by for Perfect Selfies

As far as Instagram-famous twentysomethings go, 22-year-old Sierra Furtado is up there. She has about 1 million Instagram followers and 2 million subscribers to her YouTube channel, where she posts videos about everything from makeup looks to how to take good Instagram photos. I asked Furtado to share her biggest tips for taking better selfies.

Lighting is everything.

"I learned this through YouTube, because lighting videos is really important. Lighting can make a photo look ten times better. I usually like to stand in front of a window—like directly in front of it."

Don't underestimate car selfies.

"I do a lot of car selfies. The lighting is always pretty good in a car because you're basically outside. It just really brightens up your face."

Take the time to find your angles; it'll show you how far away you should be holding the camera.

"When you're holding the camera in front of you, you don't want to be too close and get too many details of your face. Take the time to know your angles, and to know what side of your face you want to take a photo of."

Use the same filter for every single photo.

"I use the same filter to make all my photos look the same. I always use the HD1 filter from the VSCO Cam app. And I really like to play with the saturation, exposure, and the contrast of a photo. You can edit a photo without even putting a filter on by just doing those things."

Don't be afraid of using the Facetune app.

"Sometimes I use the skin-smoothing tool on Facetune to make my face look better. If you have an option to fix an insecurity, why not? No one really wants to look at a pimple, so it makes the photo better. Just don't go overboard with it."

Get a good highlighter.

"I wear a full face of makeup. I always put on foundation, and my highlight has to be on fleek, because when you're taking a selfie, it makes you all glow-y. My favorite foundation is Becca Ever-Matte Shine Proof Foundation, and my favorite highlighter is the Becca x Jaclyn Hill Shimmering Skin Perfector in Champagne Pop.

Invest in a selfie light.

"I use the Stellar Diva Ring Light, which is the same one Kylie Jenner uses. It makes your eyes really pop, by putting really nice circle in your eyes. It makes you look flawless."

OK, a $300 selfie light may be a little extreme if you're not Instagram-famous, but at least now you know the perfect recipe for a perfect selfie: good lighting, better makeup, and a hint of Facetune.
