Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas has written a detailed, open letter to the French government, imploring them to allow for the 2019/20 Ligue 1 season to be completed.

“Mr Prime Minister, Mme Minister for Sports, the 2nd of June will allow for us to arrange the end of quarantine, to streamline all practical matters, horse races or for the municipal elections. Lots of changes and hopes are anticipated at this date so that France can return to the right dynamic. Can you imagine if the 2nd June could also be a formidable opportunity to rectify the mistake concerning French football and allow for, with a health protocol implemented throughout, to give us the chance to return progressively to training, and, why not, to return to league activity for 2019/20 in July and August as previously suggested by UEFA since 21st April and since confirmed by Aleksandr Ceferin via letter on 14th May?”

Exclusive | Monaco winger Samuel Grandsir’s representative: “He has contact on the other side of the Channel.”

Speaking as part of an exclusive interview with Get French Football News, representative and lawyer of AS Monaco winger Samuel Grandsir, Badou Sambague, discussed his client’s future after a season-long loan at Brest.

“Nothing is closed off today, but right now it is true that he has had other opportunities that have presented themselves too, but he had a very good time at Brest, so for the moment, nothing is closed. Now, he is an AS Monaco player and from there we will see how things develop. He has contacts on the other side of the Channel (England), we will see what that brings.”

Burnley perhaps?

That’s possible, but also potentially higher up the table.

Jérémy Morel will return to FC Lorient

As reported by Goal France and Mohamed Toubache-TER, 36-year-old left-sided defender Jérémy Morel has agreed to return to FC Lorient, who will be in Ligue 1 next season, on an initial 12-month contract with the option to extend for a further year.

Despite serious interest from RC Lens and Brest, Morel has opted for Les Merlus, who have agreed to allow him to continue pursue his national team career with Madagascar.

Morel will return to Les Merlus on a free transfer, with his contract with Rennes being up at the end of this month.

Morel therefore moves back to the club where it all began back in 1994 when his youth career kickstarted.

Sylvain Armand poised to quit Rennes, tensions with Julien Stéphan

Ouest-France report that 39-year-old Sporting Coordinator Sylvain Armand is poised to quit his position at Ligue 1 club Rennes owing to tensions with manager Julien Stéphan.

Armand’s position was weakened by the departure of ex-president Olivier Létang at the beginning of this calendar year, who appointed him to the position in the first place in 2018.

The arrival of Florian Maurice as Technical Director should definitively put an end to the use of Armand’s role, which was supposed to act as a go-between for the board and players at Rennes when the club did not have a Sporting Director.

Contacted on the matter, Rennes President Nicolas Holbeck said: “Sylvain Armand has not been sacked. We are thinking about how to best organise our hierarchy, with the arrival of Florian (Maurice) at the beginning of July.”

Lyon won’t be able to count on Lucas Tousart for the rest of the 2019/20 UCL campaign

German side Hertha Berlin confirmed today that they will not extend the loan of French midfielder Lucas Tousart to Lyon past 30th June.

The French youth international moved to Hertha in January for €25m, but was loaned back to OL until the end of the current campaign, effective until 30th June.

He was not present at the beginning of OL’s pre-season yesterday and now we know why – he will not be able to play in the remaining 2019/20 Champions’ League matches or the Coupe de la Ligue final for Les Gones, as Hertha will not be granting an extension of the loan agreement past the original date, despite the COVID-19 situation.

As a result, he will remain on holiday until 30th June, before arriving at Berlin.

Thomas Tuchel upset at Tanguy Kouassi’s departure: “I can’t understand it.”

Speaking in his 1st press conference of pre-season, PSG boss Thomas Tuchel admitted his frustration at the departure of Tanguy Kouassi on a free transfer at the end of this month.

“I always regret us losing players. I really like working with young players, players from the academy. I am disappointed, but not personally. For Adil (Aouchiche), it was very difficult to fight for a place in midfield. For him, I can understand that he wants to try to get more minutes in another club. But I regret it. He has a lot of talent.”

“With Tanguy (Kouassi), it is not a secret that I like him a lot. He played vs Dortmund, the most important match for us, without a professional contract, at the age of 17. He deserved the faith we had in him. He had a big future in this club. He knows it, it was not the right moment for him to leave the club. Not at all. He had our belief, he had playing minutes. It was possible for him to play as a #6 or as a central defender. He was a key player. I can’t understand it. I am sad. It is like that.”
