Official | Toulouse sign Vakoun Bayo on loan with an option to buy from Celtic

Ligue 2 side Toulouse have confirmed the signing of Ivorian attacker Vakoun Bayo from Scottish side Celtic, on loan with an option to buy.

The 23-year-old U23 international has a prior relationship with Ibrahim Sangaré, a key player for Les Violets, owing to their time with Ivory Coast together.

Bayo joined Celtic 18 months ago, but failed to make a considerable impact for them. He represents TFC’s 4th signing of the summer.

L’Équipe report that 22-year-old Brazilian central defender Gabriel is very close to joining Premier League side Arsenal, who are offering him a 5-year contract.

Everton have given up on signing Gabriel, but Napoli have still not had their last word and a final attempt on the part of the Serie A side to improve on Arsenal’s wage offer should not be excluded, especially for a team that was for a long time the favourites to land the Brazilian.

If Napoli don’t make such a move, the Gunners will finalise things with Gabriel this week.

In any case, the deal will bring Lille €30m including guaranteed bonuses.

Neymar: “I am staying at PSG.”

Speaking on the club’s official website, PSG attacker Neymar confirmed that he would be staying at the Ligue 1 club for the 2020/21 campaign at the very least.

“I am staying at PSG next season! And with the ambition to return to the Champions’ League final, this time to win it. I like this idea of doing everything to leave my name in the history books of my club. If people were doubting the presence of PSG as a great European club, those doubts died in Lisbon. We left this city with the feeling of being renewed and confidence in our capacity to win it one day to write an even greater history.”

“By returning from Lisbon, in the plane on the way back, we were already excited to see each other again in Paris! I will never forget what we shared with this squad. It has formed a family and I am proud.”

Rennes identify Rui Silva (Granada CF) as goalkeeper priority

Ouest-France report that Ligue 1 side Rennes have lined up 26-year-old Granada goalkeeper Rui Silva as their priority target to replace the potentially departing Édouard Mendy.

The local outlet reports that the Blues seem ready to make an offer worth more than €25m, which is likely to convince the Brittany side to sell.

SRFC already made an opening €8m offer to Granada for Silva, who has a €15m release clause. The player has 12 months remaining on his existing contract and from January will be able to choose to join a club for free.

The player is understood to already have a verbal agreement with Real Betis to sign a pre-contract with them in January, but SRFC are confident they can override this through offering Champions’ League football.

Édouard Mendy to Chelsea, now it is imminent

L’Équipe report that Chelsea and Rennes will end up agreeing to a deal of around €25m for the transfer of Senegalese goalkeeper Édouard Mendy after a protracted period of negotiations.

Yesterday, the 28-year-old said goodbye to his teammates, having been authorised by the Brittany side on Thursday to finalise contract negotiations with Chelsea, with whom he has a 5-year agreement with that is waiting and ready to be signed.

Negotiations were long and often tense between the two clubs. Rennes had a big English club that wanted a player who had two very strong Ligue 1 seasons under his belt, a very complete game and great mental strength. Mendy had become a central figure in the SRFC dressing room who they did not want to lose.

Mendy wanted the move from the first moment it became possible, it was simply too good an opportunity, he felt, to pass up on or even hesitate over – it has been his clear and obvious desire to move that convinced Chelsea to remain in talks, even when Rennes were seeking to be excessively creative in structuring a deal. Attempts included the insertion of Olivier Giroud and the loan of Fikayo Tomori plus cash in the agreement. In the end, it appears that the deal will be concluded for a figure of between €25m and €28m including bonuses. L’Équipe estimate that it will be around €25m.

Sources tell Get French Football News that Rennes have not entirely given up on doing a loan for Tomori, but if it happens, it will be part of a separate deal and negotiation.

This fee will be a record for a Ligue 1 goalkeeper, eclipsing the amount paid by Chelsea for Petr Cech in 2004 (€13m) and by Monaco for Benjamin Lecomte in 2019 (€13m).

SRFC paid just €5m for the player last summer, with Reims set to receive 15% of the sale price to Chelsea thanks to a sell-on percentage fee clause.
