Patrick Vieira, represented by agent Meissa N’Diaye, is on their shortlist. Although the ex-Arsenal man was not a success at both New York City FC and OGC Nice, his aura and stature mean that Les Dogues could be willing to take a bet on him.

Another name circling is Claudio Ranieri, who has just left Sampdoria. The situation is expected to decant next week, as the club needs a new manager to make decisions on players who are out of contract and define the contours of the summer window to come. Tick tock.

José Fonte wants to sign new Lille deal, confirms offer

Speaking to RMC Sport, 37-year-old Portuguese central defender and Ligue 1 title winner José Fonte confirmed his desire to sign a new deal with Lille, as his current contract expires next month.

“There are talks. The president spoke with me and my agents. We are waiting to see what will happen. Yes, I want to continue, that’s normal. I like being here. I have a very good relationship with the supporters, with everyone at Luchin. I feel that everyone respects me and that is reciprocated. If I keep up my level, it is normal to want to continue… I have not seen the offer. We have spoken. I want to stay.”

PSG left-back Mitchel Bakker: “I don’t yet know if I will stay.”

Speaking in an interview with De Telegraaf, 20-year-old Dutch youth international full-back Mitchel Bakker discussed his future at PSG.

“I think that I can look back on this season with satisfaction. I have got a lot of minutes and be in a nice matches… We are all going to sit around the table, and we will see the perspective for next season. Of course, I want to be able to play a complete season. There is interest, but I am curious to know what the PSG project will be. I don’t know yet if I will stay, but I cannot complain based on this season.”

Lyon after Tom Akpakoun, Lille after Jessy Breslau

Gazette de Nîmes report that Les Crocos are set to lose a number of major youth prospects this summer.

French U16s international and defender, born in 2005, Tom Akpakoun, is facing a major charm offensive from Lyon.

17-year-old attacker Jessy Breslau is also expected to leave, having recently visited Lille’s facilities ahead of a possible move.

Georginio Wijnaldum to join PSG

RMC Sport report that PSG have won the race to sign 30-year-old Dutch international central midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum on a free transfer from Liverpool, improving on Barcelona’s proposal.

Wijnaldum will shortly undergo a medical ahead of signing a 3-year contract with Les Parisiens, after PSG more than doubled the salary proposal that the Catalan giants had made.

Mauricio Pochettino also made a phone call to Wijnaldum which sealed the deal. A real blow to Joan Laporta’s Barcelona, who were convinced that they were going to close an agreement.

Montpellier pull out of Younes Belhanda deal

L’Équipe report that Montpellier have pulled out of a deal to sign Moroccan international attacking midfielder Younes Belhanda on a free transfer owing to economic difficulties.

The 31-year-old had a verbal agreement with MHSC around a 3-year contract, but this contract will almost certainly not be signed, unless Laurent Nicollin is able to sell Gaëtan Laborde and Florent Mollet in good time before the season begins.

Nicollin has confirmed as much in an interview with Midi Libre:

“At the moment, I cannot sign him because of financial reasons. It would have been fabulous, but at the moment it is not possible. He made such an effort, we found an agreement on the financials. I thank him. If there is an opportunity, he could sign elsewhere.”

Belhanda has had an approach from OGC Nice, but has a number of offers from England, Turkey and Qatar thus far.

On Saturday, Ligue 1 side AS Monaco announced the sale of versatile Portuguese wide-man Gil Dias.

The 24-year-old has joined Benfica in a deal that is understood to be set to earn the Principality side up to €2m.

Dias had 12 months remaining on his Monaco contract after 7 consecutive loans took him from destinations including Fiorentina to Nottingham Forest to Famalicão most recently.

He has signed a 5-year deal with SLB.

Romain Perraud in England to complete Southampton move

Foot Mercato report that French left-back Romain Perraud has arrived in England in recent hours to undergo a medical with Southampton ahead of a transfer from Ligue 1 side Brest.

The deal is expected to cost the Saints around €12m excluding bonuses – the player had interest from Leeds United, but the Whites ultimately focused on separate targets.

Perraud, 23, is expected to sign a long-term contract with the Saints.

Nantes negotiating with Nîmes for Renaud Ripart

Ligue 1 side Nantes are locked in intense negotiations with Nîmes for French Swiss Army Knife Renaud Ripart, who can play as a forward, winger, midfielder or full-back.

Ripart, 28, has been the subject of a €2m bid by Les Canaris, with manager Antoine Kombouaré dead-set on signing the Frenchman. 

Les Crocos are claiming to want €3m, according to 20 Minutes, but would sell at €2.5m, according to Mohamed Toubache-TER.

At the moment, Nîmes are not even responding to Nantes, which is blocking negotiations from advancing any further.

Juventus sign Abdoulaye Dabo from Nantes for €500k

20 Minutes and Foot Mercato report that Serie A side Juventus have concluded an agreement to sign 20-year-old midfielder Abdoulaye Dabo from FC Nantes for €500k – Dabo will sign a 3-year contract with the Italian giants.

Dabo spent the 2020/21 campaign on loan with Juventus, who initially did not want to activate their option to buy the player, which is believed to have stood at €1.5m.

They were however willing to negotiate the fee down, which they have done successfully.

Dabo produced 2 assists in 16 matches for the Juventus U23s last season.

Dabo is the youngest player to ever sign a professional contract with Nantes, having done so at the age of 16.
