Mexican side Tigres “confident” of recruiting Dimitri Payet

Mexican side Tigres UANL are reportedly confident of signing Marseille midfielder Dimitri Payet (35) in a deal made possible by the likely departure of Florian Thauvin (29), according to El Futbolero.

Having brought in fellow Frenchmen Thauvin and André-Pierre Gignac (36), who both have the same representatives as Payet, the Mexican club are now “confident” of a deal to sign Payet.

Any deal would however be contingent on the departure of Thauvin, who has past issues with Payet. Thauvin’s departure would also be necessary in order to give the club the financial means to sign Payet, who would garner a high salary.

Payet scored 12 goals and registered 10 assists in 31 Ligue 1 appearances last season, as Marseille secured Champions League football next season.

Official | Marcelo released by Bordeaux

Bordeaux have this afternoon announced the departure of Brazilian defender Marcelo at the end of his 6-month contract, having arrived midway through the season.

The 35-year-old, who arrived as a free agent after leaving Lyon, will have made 11 appearances for the club, in a largely forgettable spell which saw the club finish bottom at the end of the season and relegated to Ligue 2 with the worst defence in Europe, having conceded 91 goals.

He previously played four seasons with Les Gones before being sent to the reserves over “inappropriate behaviour” in the dressing room at the start of the current season.

Following Marcelo through the exit door are academy graduates Tidiane Malbec – a goalkeeper – and Amadou Traoré – a 20-year-old winger who has made 23 appearances for the first team since 2020.

Bordeaux are set to start life in Ligue 2 next season, although a hearing with French football’s financial watchdog, the DNCG, on June 14th could result in even further relegation due to the club’s finances.

Aurélien Tchouaméni’s Real Madrid move to land Bordeaux at least €6m

As reported by RMC Aurélien Tchouaméni’s impending move to Real Madrid will land recently relegated Bordeaux a significant, and much needed, windfall.

The 22-year-old Monaco midfielder is expected to join Real Madrid for a total cost of as much as €116m including bonuses with an initial €80m price included with the player’s medical taking place in recent hours.

Monaco paid €20m for the French international from Bordeaux in 2020, a deal which included a 10% ‘added value’ sell-on clause, meaning that FCGB will receive at least €6m from this new transfer, or 10% of the €60m base value added between the two deals, and this figure could rise to €8m in total after bonuses.

However, say the outlet, the cash (as well as any similar resale clause from a potential Jules Koundé transfer) won’t arrive in time to help Bordeaux’s next audit from French football’s financial watchdog, the DNCG, with the club €50m in debt after finishing bottom of Ligue 1 this season.

Official | Luis Campos joins PSG as sporting adviser

Click:ball bearing manufacturers

PSG have confirmed that former Lille sporting director Luis Campos has joined the club as a “sporting adviser,”  replacing Leonardo, whose departure has never been made official.

In a press release from the club, it was stated that Campos will be in charge of the organisation of the club, the recruitment, and the performance of the men’s side.

It has been reported that despite the officialisation of his arrival only coming on Friday, he has already begun recruitment work for the club. According to Le Parisien, the former Lille and Monaco sporting director has already travelled to Milan to discuss a potential transfer for Milan Skriniar (27).

Speaking in the press release, Campos said, “I am very happy to join Paris-Saint-Germain, which I consider to be the most ambitious and exciting football club in the world of football. We share the same vision, a vision in which I firmly believe, and I can’t wait to start working towards developing the incredible potential of the club.”

Hwang Ui-jo on Nantes shortlist to replace Randal Kolo Muani

L’Équipe report today that agent Mogi Bayat is working on bringing in a replacement for Randal Kolo Muani at Nantes, with the French youth international leaving for Eintracht Frankfurt on a free this summer.

The South Korean international was one of the few bright spots in a catastrophic season for Bordeaux, scoring 11 goals as his team went down with a 20th-place finish.

A potential transfer nevertheless appears complicated for Les Canaris, with Bordeaux asking for €8m and Hwang himself having other oppportunities to leave Les Girondins.

Another striker plying his trade at the Marine et Blanc, M’Baye Niang, is also being looked at, although he similarly has other options, namely interest from Spain’s Almería as well as an unnamed Turkish side.

Kolo Muani, who leaves Nantes after a 13-goal season that culminated in a Coupe de France win, could also be followed out the exit door by Nigerian forward Moses Simon, who is being linked with a move to Nice.

Montpellier want to keep Remy Cabella

As reported by L’Équipe, Montpellier are looking to keep hold of former Newcastle and Saint-Etienne midfielder Remy Cabella for next season after a brief spell at his former club having been allowed to leave Russian side Krasnodar following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Due to poor fitness at the start of his spell in April and injuries towards the end, Cabella was only able to make five Ligue 1 outings for the 2012 Champions this season. However, discussions are underway to make his stay a permanent one with a two-year deal being talked about between club and player – an option that was included in his initial contract with MHSC.

The 32-year-old attacking midfielder, however, wants to take his time before he makes a final decision on his future and is interested in a new challenge overseas, in Italy in particular where he has seen some interest. A reported link to Olympiacos seems to have faded away, however, say the sports daily.

Also formerly of Marseille, Cabella won four France caps back in 2014.

Mehdi Zeffane close to joining Clermont

As reported by Foot Mercato, Ligue 1 side Clermont are close to signing former Lyon and Rennes defender Mehdi Zeffane ahead of next season.

The 30-year-old right-back is expected to be seen as a replacement for Akim Zedadka who is expected to join Lille at the end of his contract this summer. The Algerian international with 19 caps has been a free agent since April after his contract at Turkish club Yeni Malatyaspor was terminated.

Zeffane spent six months without a club after leaving Rennes in 2019, playing in Russia for Samara before joining the Turkish side in January this year. The defender made 64 Ligue 1 outings between 2013 and 2019 for OL and Rennes and has recently stated he would be keen to return to France.

Zeffane could be one of a raft of new signings soon to be announced by the club, who survived in France’s top-flight following their promotion from Ligue 2 this season, with two new players set to be unveiled next week, say the outlet.

Leonardo on his PSG departure: “There’s no nice way to say it’s over.”

In an interview published in today’s L’Équipe, former Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo has spoken for the first time since his dismissal, with the club hiring Luis Campos as sporting adviser in his stead.

The Brazilian notably addresses the rumours that his departure was linked to Kylian Mbappé’s extension, which was made official just hours before he was informed he would be leaving, in the midst of the title celebrations after the 5-0 win over Metz.

Your departure also came the night of Kylian Mbappé’s extension. Is there a link, in your opinion?

No. It was the end of the season and maybe it was the time to decide things for the future.

Were you not told your departure was a condition for him to extend?

No, I wasn’t told that. But I don’t want to get into that kind of thing. And the fact that they’ve managed to hold on to that player, a Frenchman and a Parisian, is important for PSG and for Ligue 1.

Do you know why you are leaving? Were you given an explanation?

Certain things which are said internally should stay that way. It’s what I’ve experienced with the club. When the club wants to get rid of you, there’s no nice way to say it’s over.

But there’s also the right timing. To do it the evening you are celebrating the title and Mbappé’s extension can seem shocking

That’s your judgement. Judging a decision is easier than making the decision. Being in a decision-making position is not easy. It’s a lonely job. OK, you’ve made a decision, it might shock people, but it’s your decision. Everyone is under pressure a bit. Everyone is in difficulty and is in the race.

Did you want to stay on?

Yes, yes I did. But I understand that these things happen. There are unexpected situations which take place, that’s how it is. I am very pragmatic. Three years in football these days is a lot.

It can seen a short time to put your ideas into place

That’s true, but I think PSG have their own ideas.

Are you leaving without bitterness?

I leave with zero bitterness! Honestly, zero! But then I have my vision. But it’s not the time to pour my heart out. It’s the time to thank Qatar and Paris for giving me this opportunity. And I’m not doing it out of populism.

Javier Ribalta becomes Marseille’s director of football

In a press release, Marseille have announced the arrival of Javier Ribalta as director of football at the club, reuniting with Pablo Longoria with whom he worked at Juventus.

Ribalta will “continue the development of the club” having been named as director of football. Ribalta has previously worked at AC Milan, Manchester United and Juventus. More recently, he worked at Russian side Zenit St Petersburg as a sporting director, before becoming a technical director at Parma Calcio.

Marseille’s Longoria and Ribalta worked together at Juventus between 2015 and 2017, and are this time reunited at the Orange Vélodrome. In his new role, Ribalta will “supervise the entire sporting policy at the club.”

David Friio, present at Marseille since 2020 in his role as technical director, has been named as the sporting director. He will “ensure the relationship between the management and the squad, as well as leading the scouting teams.”
