Nayef Aguerd (26) has completed his move from Rennes to West Ham. The Moroccan international centre-back joins on a five-year deal, and will wear the no.27 shirt.
Although the fee was not disclosed in the press release, Fabrizio Romano reported on Monday that the fee is thought to be £30m plus add-ons.
Aguerd enjoyed a stellar season for Rennes. A solid presence at the back, he was a key element of a side that narrowly missed out on the Ligue 1 podium, and had the joint-fourth best defensive record in the division. In that campaign, he made 31 Ligue 1 starts, scored twice, and registered two assists.
He will compete with Craig Dawson, Issa Diop, Angelo Ogbonna and Kurt Zouma for a starting spot at the heart of the Hammers’ defence.

Speaking in a press release from the club, Aguerd said, “I was really excited when I heard about West Ham’s interest. I knew I needed to go to the Premier League because it’s a dream for every player. West Ham is a historic club. I spoke with the manager and he showed me that he was very interested, so it was easy to choose to come to West Ham.”
