Le Parisien are reporting that PSG will only be able to make a move for Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva (28) if Neymar (30) departs. 

Silva has been strongly linked with a departure from the Etihad stadium this summer, and according to Le Parisien, the Portuguese international midfielder dreams of a move to Barcelona. However, moving to Camp Nou is not a realistic prospect for financial reasons.

PSG would be able to sign Silva, and the Parisien club were even close to an agreement with the player. However, his arrival was contingent on the departure of Neymar, and as the player looks set to remain at the club, a deal is unlikely. 

Neymar has largely underwhelmed at the Ligue 1 champions but has begun the season in scintillating form. His impressive start comes after a tumultuous summer where he was offered around some of Europe’s most elite clubs to no avail.

Speaking to Canal Plus, Marseille president Pablo Longoria revealed that the club are looking to make further signings before the closure of the transfer window. 

Marseille have already made 13 signings during the current window, four of which were on loan at the club last season and have now been made permanent members of the squad. They have also brought in Jordan Veretout (29), Jonathan Clauss (29) and Alexis Sánchez (33), whilst Arsenal’s Nuno Tavares (22) has arrived on loan. 

Longoria now reveals that the club are looking to further add to their squad. He said, “We still need to complete the team. From now until 31st August, we need to do something. We know the level of expectation. We need to continue to install a team that suits the coach and which moves in the direction in which we want to develop. From now until 31st August, we’re going to look to improve.”

On specific positions that are being targeted, Longoria said, “It’s true that we’re looking for a central defender and looking to improve the defensive performance of the team.”

Marseille have been strongly linked with a move for Manchester United defender Eric Bailly (28).

According to L’Équipe Glasgow Celtic centre-back Christopher Jullien is set to travel to Montpellier on Tuesday for a medical ahead of a move to the Ligue 1 side. The former Toulouse man could make the move after not playing a game for a year-and-a-half.

The former France U20 champion moved to the Scottish club in 2019 from Toulouse in a €7m move, after making 108 appearances for Les Violets in defence, scoring eight goals in that time. In Scotland, the Frenchman became a two time league champion, also winning the Scottish cup and Scottish League cup. In total, Jullien made 62 appearances for Celtic, in which he scored 10 goals.

Montpellier president Laurent Nicollin was reportedly irritated by the team’s performance against Auxerre last weekend in which the side lost 2-1 to newly promoted Auxerre in a game marred by defensive errors and has been searching to bolster the side’s defence.

According to Stade Rennais Online winger Martin Terrier is close to extending his contract at Rennes up to 2025 after publicly expressing his desire to stay at the club.

Following the Noir et Rouge’s 2-1 win over Ajaccio this weekend, in which Terrier scored an outstanding low effort from outside the box, the winger confirmed that he will not leave the club during the current transfer window.

Asked if he will still be a Rennes player beyond 1st September, he responded, “it’s certain.” He added, “I feel good here, I grew a lot here last year. The club is ambitious and the fans are fantastic so I feel good here and I’m blossoming.” Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United, Leeds and Everton were all linked with a move for the French forward this summer. 

Terrier also once again affirmed his desire to go to the World Cup in Qatar in November. “I still have a lot of work to do. In my position, there is a lot of competition, lots of big players, but I’ve matured and grown in experience and I’m going to do everything to continue,” Terrier said. 

Last season, Terrier scored 21 Ligue 1 goals in 37 appearances, and he is already off the mark this season having scored once in the first three matches.

As reported by L’Équipe, PSG are accelerating their pursuit of Manchester City’s former Monaco attacking midfielder Bernardo Silva.

In recent days, say the sports daily, Paris have made a concrete offer for the 28-year-old of around €70m which hasn’t been accepted by the Manchester club. Club director Ferran Soriano seemed to dismiss the idea of selling Silva, with Barcelona also keen, when speaking on Spanish radio this week.

For Silva, although the PSG project interests him, he’s never officially asked to leave City this summer and, with a contract that runs to 2025, this situation seems unlikely to occur with just a week left of the window. Although Silva has decided to comply with whatever decision the club leadership makes on his future, he still isn’t closed to any potential move just yet. As a result, hope for PSG persists, although it is fading.

However, Le Parisien reported last week that PSG would only be able to sign Silva if they sold Neymar, which also seems very unlikely given the Brazilian’s form and keenness to stay put.
