As reported by L’Équipe, via AFP, Clermont’s Guinea international striker Mohamed Bayo was handed a two month suspended prison sentence today for ‘drunk driving’ and ‘unintentional injuries’ by a Clermont-Ferrand court.

Bayo accepted the sentence proposed after an admission of guilt. Previously, he was scheduled to appear in court later this year where he could have received a greater punishment.

The case dates back to October and a collision with another car in Chamalières. At the time the player’s blood alcohol level was found to be 0.88 g/l after trying to flee and arrested by police. The couple in the other vehicle were slightly injured in the accident.

The 23-year-old player was also sentenced to a fine of €4,000 and the suspension of his driving license.

Kylian Mbappé on clicking with Neymar and Lionel Messi: “It’s a shame it’s only happening now.”

Speaking to Canal+ in the wake of Paris Saint-Germain’s 6-1 demolition of Clermont, Kylian Mbappé reflect on the recent form he’s shown alongside Neymar and Lionel Messi.

PSG’s star front three have 11 goals and 8 assists between them in the last two games, showing a level of understanding which the Frenchman himself regrets has come so late on in the season.

“We’re happy, I think we enjoyed ourselves a lot and we gave out some enjoyment as well. We’re continuing our road to that 10th title [in PSG’s history], I don’t think it’s very far, and we’re very satisfied.”

“[On the understanding] Yes, it’s a shame it’s only happening now, but then there were a fair amount of circumstances and events that meant we were delayed. But we feel that we’re three quality players, and we trying to help the team as much as possible and that’s what happened today.”

“[On regrets over not clicking together earlier] That’s life, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, you have to keep looking forward. It’s in the past now. We had some pain, which is still present but you need to keep positive, we have to show that we’re a big club and a big team and that we’re here to win trophies.”

PLAYER RATINGS | Monaco 1-0 Nice, Galtier’s side are again shut out as ASM take key win

Ligue 1 21/22, Round 33 – 20/4/22

MONACO – 1 (Golovin 45)

Alexander Nübel, 5

Ruben Aguilar, 5

Benoît Badiashile, 7 – This was a stoic and organized defensive display as he handled Delort and Dolberg with ease. His astute positioning and heading ability were key to Monaco’s clean sheet in a crucial win.

Axel Disasi, 5

Caio Henrique, 5

Aurélien Tchouaméni, 5

Youssouf Fofana, 6

Vanderson, 6

Aleksandr Golovin, 7 – His inclusion in the side has added more balance and vision of late and a deft reverse ball that put Ben Yedder in before the break should have equalled an assist to add to his close range opener.

Wissam Ben Yedder, 4 – Despite some lethal recent form, his finishing was erratic here and he should have given Monaco a more comfortable lead but wasted three major chances thanks to a weak finish when put in on Benitez before half time, mistiming a presentable headed chance and hitting the post after the break.

Kevin Volland, 4

Others: Martins 5, Boadu 5, Jakobs 5.

NICE – 0

Walter Benítez, 4

Jordan Lotomba, 5

Flavius Daniliuc, 4

Jean-Clair Todibo, 4

Melvin Bard, 4

Mario Lemina, 3 – He was unable to impose himself in midfield and was subbed after an hour having missed a free header at 0-0 and his hesitation on the edge of the area nearly cost Nice a goal early on.

Khéphren Thuram, 6

Hicham Boudaoui, 3

Bilal Brahimi, 6 – His first start was a lively one for the highly-regarded but little seen forward and was the only source of creativity during much of the first half with his pace and skill but, aside from one precise corner for a Lemina header, his deliveries were often wayward.

Kasper Dolberg, 4

Andy Delort, 4

Others: Rosario 5, Kluivert 5, Gouiri 5, Amavi 5.

Lyon’s Jason Denayer: “It’s a collective problem.”

Following Lyon’s elimination from the Europa League last night at the hands of West Ham, centre-back Jason Denayer spoke to RMC Sport about the

“The whole team believed before the match, but we didn’t implement what we had to in order to solidify our opportunities and to be defensively solid, since we conceded three goals from moves that were not really that dangerous in nature. It’s a collective problem, we didn’t know how to put everything into place collectively to make the difference. It’s understandable that the supporters are disappointed, because we’re not having a good season in the league and now we’ve missed the chance to do anything else. In Ligue 1, while it’s still mathematically possible [to qualify for Europe], we have to believe, to give everything and try everything.”

ESTAC Troyes accuse OGC Nice supporters of attacking fans

OGC Nice squeaked past ESTAC Troyes during their Ligue 1 encounter at the Allianz Riviera on Sunday, beating their visitors 1-0 thanks to a last minute combination between striker Evann Guessand and box-to-box midfield player Khephren Thuram.

The game, a stalemate for long periods of time, left a bitter taste in the mouths of City Football Group-owned ESTAC Troyes on the pitch, but also off of it.

According to the visiting team’s official Twitter account, travelling ESTAC supporters were “cowardly attacked” by OGC Nice fans after the final whistle. The LFP has yet to make a statement as to whether or not they will investigate this further.

L’ESTAC a une pensée pour ses supporters ayant effectués le déplacement jusqu’à Nice, pour soutenir leur équipe et qui se sont lâchement faits agressés peu après le match. Le club condamne fermement tout acte de violence. Courage.#onestensemble #TeamESTAC 💙🤍

PSG contact Paulo Dybala’s entourage over move

As reported by BUT, PSG are looking at signing Juventus’ 28-year-old Argentine forward Paulo Dybala this summer as his contract expires at the end of the season.

As they did last summer, in signing Lionel Messi, Sergio Ramos and Gianluigi Donnarumma on free transfers, PSG are looking to repeat the trick by capitalising on Dybala’s contractual situation in Italy and spoke with the player’s entourage over a possible move to Paris. PSG sporting director Leonardo has been following the player for several seasons.

Dybala is seen as a low-cost part of the strategy to replace Kylian Mbappé, should the Frenchman leave Paris this summer, but PSG will need to beat Atlético Madrid and Tottenham to the player’s signature with a contract extension at Juve still in flux also.

Having been promoted with Clermont for this Ligue 1 season, the 28-year-old Desmas has endured a difficult campaign in the French top flight and lost his spot as first choice to Ouparine Djoco earlier this season before recently returning to the team as Clermont battle relegation.

However, although the Frenchman’s contract runs to 2023, Belgian strugglers Zulte are looking at signing the ‘keeper this summer and are hoping to open talks with Clermont soon as they search for a new goalkeeper.

Carlo Ancelotti on leaving PSG: “They told me that if I didn’t beat Porto, they would sack me.”

In an interview with Spanish programme Universo Valdano – transcribed in 20 minutes – Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti notably discussed his time at Paris Saint-Germain, in particular the reasons for his departure.

The Italian manager prepares to face Manchester City in the Champions League semi-finals tonight, having knocked out his former club in the Round of 16.

“I went there thanks to [sporting director] Leonardo, who I managed as a player. It was a club that Qatar had recently bought. I really liked the project and there wasn’t a manager yet.”

“We started to change the structure of training sessions, to put in a kitchen, etc. Because French players arrive half an hour before training and leave half an hour afterwards. I liked the project, but in the second year they weren’t so happy with me.”

“For a Champions League match in which we were already through to the knockouts, we had lost a League game [to Nice, 1-2] before winning [against Evian, 4-0], and they told me that if I didn’t beat Porto, they would sack me. I told them, how can you say that to me, it breaks our trust. I decided to leave in February, even if they wanted to renew me.”
