Journalist Saber Desfarges reports this afternoon that discussions between Paris Saint-Germain and Lille over the transfer of Portugese international Renato Sanches are now taking place on a daily basis.

Le Parisien had reported earlier this afternoon that the former Bayern Munich man had decided to make the move to last year’s Ligue 1 champions, having rejected Milan’s advances.

For the time being, the financial package being offered by PSG is below what Les Dogues want for their midfielder, who played a part in the title win in 2020/21. Agent Jorge Mendes is said to be at the heart of the negotiations.

At PSG, Sanches would be once again playing under Christophe Galtier, whose move from Nice is now imminent, as well as Luis Campos, the new sporting advisor. All three men were together at Lille.

Le Parisien indicated that a €10m fee had been offered for the final year of Sanches’ contract, with Campos telling his former club that PSG would simply swoop in at the end of next season to sign him on a free should a move not materialise this summer.

Ospreys captain Justin Tipuric labelled his side’s win over Montpellier in the Champions Cup in France as “special”.

Tipuric’s team claimed a surprise 21-10 victory against the French champions, putting Ospreys back in the race for the knockout stages.

The triumph is the Welsh outfit’s first after a string of 11 successive defeats and a draw in the toughest club competition in the world.

“To win is great, but the biggest thing for us now is to carry on winning. We need to become more consistent.

“That’s the standard we want to be playing at week in, week out. We know we can go up another few gears and we want to push on to be better.

“It’s special to put one over on the French champions. You could see they were hurting at the end and they will come to us in the new year really fired up.”

Took lessons from Leicester defeat

Head coach Toby Booth echoed his captain’s sentiments about the victory and said the win shows his team can learn quickly as they did from their loss to Leicester Tigers the week before.

“Everyone was bitterly disappointed after last week’s performance. We took it personally and we talked a lot about it,” said Booth.

“We got the chance to go again and the sign of a good team is that you learn quickly. We learned a lot of lessons out of the Leicester defeat and we proved that tonight.

“But the best part of it was that after the elation on the final whistle, the players were genuinely disappointed that they hadn’t taken more out of the game. It’s nice to have some positivity and to have turned a corner.”

Ospreys shift their focus back to the United Rugby Championship, where they face Welsh rivals, the Scarlets. Booth’s men will be looking to start to climb the table as they currently sit way down in the 14th spot.

As reported by L’Équipe, Paris Saint-Germain are aiming to revamp their youth academy as a part of wider hierarchal changes being brought in by new sporting advisor Luis Campos and sporting director Antero Henrique. Ultra-modern training facilities are being constructed at the PSG’s future training facility at Poissy – where youth team facilities in particular will be key to organisational change at the club. 

There are the beginnings of a change of attitude towards its youth academy at PSG, and it is starting right at the very top with Nasser al-Khelaïfi’s changing rhetoric, and on the ground with new youth facilities. 

The Qatari told Le Parisien : “Eleven years ago I said I wanted to train the future Messi, today I say we want to train the future Mbappé, who would also come from Paris,” explained Nasser al-Khelaïfi ten days ago to Le Parisien. We will have the best training centre in the world. My goal for the next few years is to have only Parisian players in our team. There is so much talent in our region.”

The hope in the capital is to keep players within the ‘hotbed of talent’ that was heavily mediatised after France’s 2018 World Cup win – which saw predominantly Parisian-developed players feature in the team. In the future, the club hopes to keep the likes of Rabiot, Nkunku, Diaby, Ikoné, and Areola within the first team. 

Announced this morning by Paris FC’s social channels, Pierre-Yves Hamel (28) will join the Parisian side after a season out on loan at Clermont – the centre forward will drop down into Ligue 2 next season.  Signing a contract that will run until 2026, the move is estimated to be valued at €1m. 

Hamel featured 20 times last season on loan to Clermont in Ligue 1, but failed to score a single goal. The former Rennes and Avranches striker leaves the Lorient with one year left on his contract, and will be under contract at PFC for the next 4 seasons. 

Paris FC are hoping to build a side to challenge for promotion again to Ligue 1 after failing last year in the play-offs against Sochaux with a 2-1 defeat. The Parisian side have already strengthened, signing former Red Star FC attacking midfielder Mehdi Chahiri on loan from RC Strasbourg – which fits PFC’s profile of players that can quickly move the ball to feet and drive into space.

Major League Soccer team Inter Miami have tonight announced the signing of French forward Corentin Jean on a permanent deal from Lens, on a deal to the end of the 2024 season with an option for two additional years.

L’Équipe had reported in their issue today that the former French youth international would be moving for a fee of €1.2m, as he leaves the Sang et Or after two and a half years at the club.

He has seven goals in 54 appearances for Franck Haise’s team, and netted once this season in 17 appearances during an injury-blighted season. That goal nevertheless came at the Parc des Princes as he netted a late equaliser to earn his side a point against Paris Saint-Germain.

The striker, who can also play out wide, started out his career with formative club Troyes, and has also turned out for Monaco – with whom he won the Ligue 1 title – and Toulouse.

As reported by L’Équipe, Rennes coach Bruno Genesio will soon extend his contract with the club by two more years, according to sporting director Florian Maurice.

Speaking on Pleine Lucarne, Maurice explained that: “We have a verbal agreement with Bruno. He will extend for two years.” Genesio’s current deal has just a year left to run but this new agreement will keep him at the Breton club until 2025.

Genesio produced a thrilling season at Rennes, who played flowing, attacking football this campaign, scoring the second-most goals in the French top flight, eventually finishing fourth while making it into the Europa League for next year. Such entertaining football helped win Genesio the UNFP’s Ligue 1 coach of the season award this year.

Despite that form, Genesio’s future wasn’t entirely secure at the end of the campaign, receiving, but turning down, offers from other clubs.

In an interview with BFMTV during his stay in the USA, Kylian Mbappé notably spoke about Nasser Al-Khelaifi’s recent interview with Le Parisien in which he pointed to the French striker as the model for PSG’s new project, in the wake of his contract extension.

“Of course it moves me [to hear that], especially coming from my club president. It’s a message which is great to hear but there was a PSG before me and there will be a PSG after me. Everyone knows of my ambition to leave my mark on the club, but really Paris Saint-Germain has this identity and I’m just making my contribution.”

In his interview, Al-Khelaifi also indicated that this summer would mark the end of the “bling-bling” era at the club, with the new project taking on a more pragmatic approach – embodied by the probable arrival of Christophe Galtier as manager in the coming days. Mbappé also reacted to these words:

“I don’t know if I’m the counter-example of bling-bling, because when your face is on Times Square, you are a bit bling-bling but I’ve always made football my priority, for me one can’t exist without the other. But I understand the club’s message, that’s the message I’ve been given too.”

As reported by L’Équipe earlier today last season’s amateur Coupe de France semi-finalists, FC Versailles, will play their home matches at Stade Jean-Bouin – the home stadium of famous Parisian-based Rugby side Stade Français. 

Located next to Paris Saint-Germain’s Parc des Princes, the newly-promoted National 1 side will play in the 20,000 capacity stadium in the third tier next season. The club has found a solution to play home games next season, with Stade Montbouron not being able to play games at night because of a UNESCO ruling that prevents a stadium so close to the Palace of Versailles to use floodlights. 

Stade Jean Bouin is starting to gain a reputation as a back-up stadium for Parisian football teams that progress up the football pyramid quickly but not with the necessary infrastructures in place to play. It has been home to fellow Parisian outfit Red Star FC in 2016-17 for one Ligue 2 season, and the Paris Saint-Germain Féminin team have played all their home matches there since 2018. 

Also in the National 1 are Paris 13 Athletico, who will also have to move away from their home ground due to regulation issues at the start of season. They will play at Paris FC’s Stade Charléty for the first few home games of the 22-23 season.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal’s French international defender William Saliba won’t be loaned out by the London club again next season after two years on loan with Nice and Marseille in Ligue 1.

After a successful spell with OM this season for the 21-year-old, which saw him win the UNFP’s young player of the season award, another loan for the player had been reported as a possibility as he looks to make the France squad for November’s World Cup, with Marseille keen to keep the player for another year.

However, Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta now plans to integrate the defender into his first-team with Romano reporting that the club now ‘trust’ the player while confirming that the Premier League side are keen to discuss a new contract for the centre-back. Only a ‘crazy’ bid would change Arsenal’s mind over the player’s future, which would seem to end Marseille’s hopes of re-signing Saliba, even if the French side are prepared to commit to a €30m move.

Atlético Madrid, Leicester, Napoli and Newcastle have all also enquired for Saliba of late.

Paris Saint-Germain have announced their first major signing of the summer, as Porto’s Vitinha (22) joins the club for a €40m fee – the former Wolves loanee joining the Parisian side on a permanent 5-year deal after undergoing a medical earlier today in the capital. 

The 22-year-old has made 47 appearances in all competitions for FC Porto, including 36 as a starter. He scored four goals and provided three assists. A deal was struck last week for the Portuguese international, who becomes compatriot Luis Campos’ first signing since his arrival as sporting advisor earlier this month.

PSG recently triggered Porto’s €40m release clause for the midfielder, which meant he was free to negotiate with the club. This confirms the Parisian’s first summer signing under incoming manager Christophe Galtier and sporting director Luis Campos’s partnership at PSG. More deals are expected to be concluded in the near future, as PSG have already agreed deals in principle with Milan Skriniar, Renato Sanches, and Gianluca Scamacca – as per sources contacted by GFFN yesterday evening. 

Porto have indicated that the exact fee of the transfer will be €41.525m, while the Portuguese club will pay the €4m agent fees included in the transfer themselves.
