Juninho is Lyon’s next Sporting Director – but who will manage?

As reported by L’Équipe, ex-player and club legend Juninho is returning to Lyon as Sporting Director effective quasi-immediately.

But, they have yet to choose their replacement for manager Bruno Génésio – they have decided not to do so until the end of the season – Laurent Blanc, Julien Stéphan and Patrick Vieira are all preferred options, but for the moment there has been no advance in discussions for anyone of the trio.

Aulas likes Christophe Galtier (Lille), but he is not available. Vieira might be owing to the continued board uncertainty at OGC Nice, Blanc and Stéphan are desperately looking for opportunities.

A series of other candidates are also in the fray: ex-players – 38-year-old Atletico Madrid assistant Tiago, whose interests are being managed by Jorge Mendes, is someone who OL are looking closely at. Mikel Arteta, Pep Guardiola’s assistant, is another individual in contention: he has no experience as a #1 either. The other individual is Sylvinho, current boss of Brazil’s U23s. Aged 45, he worked as an assistant for Roberto Mancini at Inter Milan.

Zulte are in the front of the queue to sign him for free this summer, but other teams in France retain interest.

Claude Puel: “I would like to discover Spain.”

Click:Nail polish Bottles

Speaking in an interview with Nice-Matin, Claude Puel discussed his next career move.

“I am not particularly careerist, but I need to be immersed in competition, in passion, to be in a project. Put footballing principles in place, bring a club forward, always with the intention of playing European football or qualifying for it some time after. I have opened my breadth of competence through the clubs that I have been at… I need responsibilities. In a big club, or in a club that wants to become big… I would like to discover Spain.”

I don’t know anything about them, it will depend on the project. I could very well take a year out too if a good opportunity does not present itself.

Shock & confusion as PSG announce the dissolution of their reserves team

RMC report that a handful of players at PSG were shocked and confused to hear that the club had decided to dissolve their reserve team set-up, effective immediately.

The team played in the French 4th division and Les Parisiens announced in a press release earlier today that they would no longer exist, in a restructure which ensures that all prospects are either training with the first team or playing for the U19s.

The outlet understands that the decision was taken by PSG Sporting Director Antero Henrique following failed conversations with the French Football Federation and the LFP about allowing Les Parisiens’ reserve team set-up to play in Ligue 2, the French second division.

Henrique announced the decision to the players belonging to the reserve team this Friday morning and assured them that he would keep any agreements he had made with individuals about new contracts.

A relief for 25-year-old Abdallah Yaisien, 19-year-old defender Arnaud Nkodi Luzayadio and 22-year-old left-back Isaac Hemans, who had all been in extension negotiations for several weeks.

The PSG board has decided to meet with each player, one by one, to discuss their future, by offering loans to players that the club intends to keep and sales for others. The news did not have a positive impact at all on many of the young players…

For the moment, Nantes have not responded to a single offer made by any club for the player.

Nantes seeking impressive double-swoop return for Sofiane Hanni & Adrien Trebel

Ouest-France report this morning that Ligue 1 side Nantes are attempting an ambitious double-swoop return for two former players in 28-year-olds Adrien Trebel and Sofiane Hanni.

Hanni, an Algerian international, spent 2009-11 with Nantes, and the current Spartak Moscow winger is apparently the subject of an attempt by his former club to sign him on loan with an option to buy.

The same goes for Anderlecht midfielder Adrien Trebel, who the Nantes board see as a stop-gap for the likely departure of current captain Valentin Rongier this summer. Franck Kita, the club’s current owner’s son, is running things for the Nantes summer window for the moment, and is counting on his excellent relationship with the player’s agent, Mogi Bayat, to get the deal over the line.

Trebel too would be joining initially on loan but with an option.

Tottenham have offer rejected by Tanguy Ndombele

Gianluca di Marzio reported last night that Juventus Sporting Director Fabio Paratici met with Lyon representatives in Paris on Monday to discuss potential deals for Tanguy Ndombele and Amine Gouiri.

TF1 understand that all three of Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus are all in active discussions with Lyon to sign the player, with Gianluca di Marzio adding that Spurs have had an initial bid rejected for the French international worth €45m plus bonuses.

Guingamp want €20m for Marcus Thuram

La Provence report this morning that EA Guingamp President Bertrand Desplat has set an asking price of at least €20m in order to sell attacker Marcus Thuram this summer.

Marseille have made a formal approach for the player and Andoni Zubizarreta wants to sign the 21-year-old. Dortmund are also interested in the player and especially his contractual situation, with his current deal expiring in 2020.

The €20m asking price seems hallucinatory with his contractual situation in mind, which has convinced Ligue 1 rivals Lyon to look elsewhere.
