Guingamp want €20m for Marcus Thuram

La Provence report this morning that EA Guingamp President Bertrand Desplat has set an asking price of at least €20m in order to sell attacker Marcus Thuram this summer.

Marseille have made a formal approach for the player and Andoni Zubizarreta wants to sign the 21-year-old. Dortmund are also interested in the player and especially his contractual situation, with his current deal expiring in 2020.

The €20m asking price seems hallucinatory with his contractual situation in mind, which has convinced Ligue 1 rivals Lyon to look elsewhere.

Celtic & Toulouse agree €8m deal for Christopher Jullien

As reported by L’Équipe, Scottish champions Celtic have agreed an €8m deal in principle to sign French central defender Christopher Jullien from Toulouse.

Finer details still need to be hashed out between the two clubs, but the 26-year-old has been successfully lured into making a move to the UK-based outfit where he will experience Champions’ League football.

He has had extensive discussions with the club’s board and staff and has already agreed to a long term contract with Celtic.

A medical will be scheduled tomorrow should Celtic and Toulouse agree on the finer deal points in the next 24 hours, which appears highly likely.

Ouest-France report that Ligue 2 side SM Caen have submitted an offer for 26-year-old striker Santy Ngom of FC Nantes.

It is unclear whether this proposal was a loan with option to buy or a straight transfer. Les Canaris are currently considering the proposal, for a player who has started pre-season training with the reserves, following a decision from head coach Vahid Halilhodzic.

Manchester City forward Thierry Ambrose will join Metz permanently

As reported by L’Équipe, Manchester City have agreed a deal with Ligue 1 side FC Metz to sell French attacker Thierry Ambrose, who will sign a 4-year contract with Les Grenats imminently.

The 22-year-old underwent a medical on Saturday with success and will imminently sign a contract until 2023 with FCM. The nature of the fee agreement, that still has to be finalised between the two clubs, and the size of the transfer sum, are not yet disclosed, although the deal is expected to cost Metz between €2m and €3m.

Ambrose spent the 2018/19 campaign on loan with Ligue 2 side RC Lens, where he scored 4 goals and provided 4 assists in 33 matches, but shone as an ever-present threat for RCL in their ultimately unsuccessful promotion push.

Manchester United haven’t actually bid for Issa Diop yet, but will now – L’Équipe

L’Équipe claim that contrary to reporting in England and France, Premier League side Manchester United haven’t actually tested West Ham United’s resolve with a formal offer for 22-year-old French defender Issa Diop, despite incessant contacts between the Red Devils and the player’s entourage.

Nor have there been formal discussions taking place between the two clubs – the outlet claims that this is about to change and United’s 1st formal bid should land on the Hammers’ table in the coming days.

The newspaper claims that West Ham’s position is that they do not want to sell Diop, but the door is ajar – as a result, MU will have to make a big effort, with it difficult to see their opening offer being worth less than €50m.

Diop himself has not earmarked this summer as an absolute must in terms of a departure from West Ham, but Manchester United’s interest will certainly make that position a little more tricky to internally justify.

However, the French youth international has decided that whatever happens, he will not force a move away from West Ham this summer, who believed in him to sign him from Toulouse last summer.

Christopher Jullien: “Celtic are a mythical club.”

Speaking in an interview with L’Équipe earlier this week, Celtic’s new French central defender Christopher Jullien discussed the move – highlights.

What do you take from your time at Toulouse (2016-2019)?

I arrived on tip-toes in Ligue 1, and in my first year. I am truly very happy with what I did. The second and third years, I am not satisfied with the image that I projected of myself. At the end of it all, it is a mixed bag, even if I finished well in the final months. I lacked consistency. The fact that I did not give everything that I was capable of is a source of dissatisfaction. I did not bring to Toulouse what I should have. As a collective, it was difficult as well. The club must be in the top 10 in Ligue 1. We didn’t achieve that. The squad last season was the best squad I had played in at Toulouse, and we still didn’t manage it.

Do you feel like your time at Toulouse was a missed opportunity in terms of progression?

No, I don’t think so. Each challenge is another stage. What I experienced at Toulouse will help me progress. But it was the right time to leave. At my age, for my progression, with a desire to reach my peak, I had to go elsewhere. With the aim of winning trophies.

What is Celtic going to give you?

A superior stage. The choice was simple. This is a mythical club, with an incredible atmosphere. They play in the Champions’ League and a have a league that resembles the Premier League.

Your arrival in Celtic was met with a lot of enthusiasm in Scotland – how does it feel to be a star?

(laughs) I realised that immediately I would be recognised. They are the best fans in Europe. It will be up to me to meet their expectations. It is a beautiful challenge.

Adil Rami lied to ex-OM boss Garcia, missing training for “family reasons” when he’s on Fort Boyard

La Provence this morning provided an update into the internal investigation ongoing at Marseille into the conduct of French World Cup winner Adil Rami, who is currently suspended by the club.

The 33-year-old was received at Marseille’s training centre, La Commanderie, by President Jacques-Henri Eyraud on Wednesday for a hearing relating to the disciplinary proceedings currently engaged against him. Rami has not been allowed to participate in pre-season and is preparing himself physically elsewhere on the Côte D’Azur.

The crux of this procedure falls on Rami’s absence from training on Monday 20th May, two days after the club’s victory over Toulouse, a match that he participated in.

That day, instead of reporting for training, he had set off for Charente-Maritime to participate in an episode of TV gameshow “Fort Boyard” (eventually aired on June 29th). On the agenda that day was a fight in the mud, which he participated in, despite being injured. The crux of the matter hinges upon whether or not Rami had received permission from then manager Rudi Garcia to make the trip.

The newspaper’s sources indicated that Garcia was in fact unaware that Rami would be participating in the TV show and learned of his player’s participation via the club when the league season was already concluded. At the time, Rami apparently told the French coach that he had to go to Paris for family reasons. When contacted by La Provence, Garcia preferred not to comment.
