Rennes’ transfer window continues to intensify with interest in Maouassa, Boey and Léa Siliki

After Rennes’ sizable additions of Lens defender Loïc Badé (21) and forward Kamaldeen Sulemana (19) of FC Nordsjaelland this summer, the Breton club could see a number of players leave Roazhon park in the coming weeks.

Le Parisien report Borussia Mönchengladbach had enquired as to the availability of left sided player Faitout Maouassa (23) but nothing concrete has emerged as yet. Celtic’s interest in full-back Sacha Boey (20), meanwhile, has stalled but other clubs remain keen while an agreement has yet to be found with Brest for midfielder James Léa Siliki (25). An offer from an Italian club for centre-back Nayef Aguerd (25) was also refused.

One incoming move set to be completed is that of Nimes and Norway left-back Birger Meling (26), with only a medical left to finalise as Bruno Génésio’s squad continues to take shape ahead of his first full season in charge as his Rennes side become France’s first Europa Conference representatives.

Although talks have restarted with the centre-back, the Premier League side are yet to start talks with his club, with no bids coming in as of yet.

The 24-year-old Croatia international has been with the Ligue 1 side for the last three seasons, after initially arriving from Salzburg, and notably appeared in his country’s runner-up finish at the 2018 World Cup.

Marseille president Longoria confirms negotiations underway for full-backs Lirola and Wass

Over the course of this afternoon’s unveiling of new signings Cengiz Ünder and Luan Peres, president Pablo Longoria notably discussed Marseille’s current transfer dealings and potential arrivals.

The press conference, transcribed in RMC Sport, notably saw Longoria give updates on the club’s pursuit of fullbacks Pol Lirola – who already spent last season on loan with Marseille, from Fiorentina – and Valencia’s Daniel Wass.

On negotiations for Pol Lirola

“For Pol, negotiations are underway with Fiorentina. In this market, things move along slowly for certain players. As always in a negotiation, you have to get to the point where everyone is happy.”

On Marseille’s pursuit of Daniel Wass

“We have a lot of respect for this player, who I know from my time at Valencia. There is an interest which we have made the player and Valencia aware of, but negotiations are difficult. Wass has just one year left on his contract, Valencia tried to extend it. We have to operate in respect of all the parties, not least one that I know well. Let’s wait and see what the possibilities are.”

Amine Gouiri will play as a centre-forward, not left-winger this season

Speaking in an interview with Le Dauphiné Libéré, OGC Nice attacker Amine Gouiri (21) confirmed that he has been told by manager Christophe Galtier that he will be playing as a centre-forward, rather than as a left-winger, this season.

“He confirmed to me that I will be playing centrally this season, which is encouraging because that is my preferred role.”

On staying at OGC Nice:

The most important thing is that for the first time in my career, last year, I was able to play matches consistently. I do not forget that it was my first real season in Ligue 1. I improved, but there are still a lot of aspects of my game to improve and I also want to work on my strong points.

On France:

Certainly Les Bleus are in the corner of my mind. It is up to me to continue to work, put everything into it to achieve it, because sometimes things can go quickly. There is serious competition for the positions up top, but maybe my versatility will help me in the future.

Lyon make enquiry for Chelsea’s Emerson Palmieri

Foot Mercato report this afternoon that Lyon are interested in signing Italy international Emerson Palmieri, having made an enquiry for the Chelsea man. With Les Gones’ initial target Patrick van Aanholt already signing with Galatasaray, the Lyon management have turned their attention to the Euro 2020 champion.

The 26-year-old has only made two league appearances this season with the Blues, and is not considered an integral part of the squad. The full-back nevertheless impressed during this summer’s tournament after coming in as Leonardo Spinazzola’s replacement in the semi-final against Spain and playing as a starter in the final against England.

With reports in Italy and Spain linking the former Roma man to Napoli and Sevilla, Lyon appear to have also thrown their hat in the ring for the former Brazil youth international, with Peter Bosz looking to bring in a new left-back into the squad.

PSG forward Kenny Nagera to join Bastia on loan

L’Équipe report tonight that young Paris Saint-Germain forward Kenny Nagera is set to join Ligue 2 side Bastia on a season-long loan.

The 19-year-old, who has featured in Les Parisiens’ pre-season friendlies, notably scoring against Sevilla last Tuesday, had been looking to move in order to accrue playing time over the coming campaign. With Toulouse and Le Havre also looking at him, Nagera will now join the Corsicans, and is expected to fly out to his new club on Monday.

The French youth international, who made his professional debut with PSG during last season’s league campaign, had been on the team sheet for tonight’s Trophée des Champions defeat to Ligue 1 title holders Lille.

Peter Bosz on Lyon’s transfer plans: “I need quality in line with our style of play.”

In his pre-match press conference before Lyon’s opening game of the season, on Saturday against Brest, Peter Bosz discussed the upcoming campaign and highlighted the players he would be counting on this season.

His words transcribed in L’Équipe, the Dutch manager notably named right-back Léo Dubois as club captain – replacing Memphis Depay, now at Barcelona – with striker Moussa Dembélé as vice-captain and midfielder Houssem Aouar completing the hierarchy.

On whether he is counting on Houssem Aouar this season

Yes.

On the competition this season in Ligue 1

I’ve seen the business being done by PSG, Nice, Monaco – who have signed one of our players [Jean Lucas] – Rennes, Marseille… These clubs have signed players, that’s how it is. But I still have to find out what the teams’ strengths are. I’ve thouroughly analysed Brest first of all.

On not signing anyone under his management yet

Yes, the players who came in were here before I arrived. Fortunately, the window runs until the end of August, so we still have time to better balance out the squad. I won’t talk about specific positions but it’s clear that we still need good players in every line. We have lots of players, but I need quality in line with our style of play.

On the club’s pre season preparation

I’m happy with what we’ve done. We’ve progressed in the way we play but we’re not ready, that’s clear. But no club is, at this stage. We believe that we’ve progressed between the friendly matches against Sporting and Porto – I saw a big difference even though the result wasn’t good.

On Rayan Cherki

He’s a player who’s nearly 18. He has a lot to learn, but so do 32-year-old players. He has many very interesting aspects, and some that he needs to work on as well. That’s why I’m here, to work with young players and make them better.

UEFA open disciplinary proceedings against Sparta Prague following racist abuse of Monaco’s Tchouaméni

UEFA have announced this evening that it has opened disciplinary proceedings against Sparta Prague following their Champions League qualifier tie against Monaco.

Midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni had complained of racist abuse in the aftermath to scoring the opener explaining on social media the next day that he had been subjected to monkey noises from opposition fans. The match was briefly stopped and Frenchman was supported by team-mates and manager, with Niko Kovač later highlighting that Monaco had “won against racism as well”.

The proceedings are based on three charges – “Discriminatory behaviour”, “Provocative offensive messages”, and “Throwing of objects”.

Monaco ran out 2-0 winners of the tie’s first leg, with away goals from Tchouaméni and Kevin Volland giving Kovač’s men a healthy lead going into next week’s deciding fixture for a place in the playoffs again

Newcastle make €14m + €2m offer for Jens Cajuste

SRFC have had 3 bids knocked back by the Danish club for Cajuste, who earlier this window had made a move to the Ligue 1 club a priority. But with the Magpies entering the race, it appears possible that the cards are going to be redistributed.

Player Ratings | Montpellier 2-3 Marseille, Payet magical in Marseille thrilling comeback

MONTPELLIER – 2 (Luan Peres OG 30′, Laborde 34′)

Dimitry Bertaud, 5

Junior Sambia, 3 – Oddly shied away from the ball to allow Payet’s free kick to skip through the wall for 2-2 and struggled with Konrad in the first half.

Matheus Thuler, 5

Maxime Estève, 5

Nicolas Cozza, 3 – Worked hard but was unable to prevent Ünder creating openings down the right throughout the game.

Joris Chotard, 5

Jordan Ferri, 5

Florent Mollet, 4 – Unable to have an effect on the game and was unable to make the most of his admittedly rare openings.

Elye Wahi, 4 – Produced one brilliant run which turned Saliba inside out but was largely anonymous besides.

Gaëtan Laborde, 7 – His run across the penalty spot forced the own goal before a cleverly disguised effort from the edge of the area fooled Mandanda for 2-0. Montpellier will sorely miss him should a move be found.

Andy Delort, 6 – Showed flashes of his quality throughout the game but, as is often the case with Delort, they were fleeting but he still affected proceedings – an arrowed cross led to the opener and he worked well with Laborde when given the chance.

Others Souquet 5, Ristic 5, Leroy 5, Mavididi 4, Makouana 5.

MARSEILLE – 3 (Ünder 68′, Payet 75′, 80′)

Steve Mandanda, 3 – Not happy having to use his feet in tight spaces and had a David Seaman-esque moment as he was deceived by Laborde’s looping second.

Willam Saliba, 5

Leonardo Balerdi, 5

Luan Peres, 5 – Sneaks a five despite an erratic and largely poor first half having made a couple of well timed challenges later on, including one to win the ball back for Payet’s winner.

Pape Gueye, 5

Boubacar Kamara, 6 – Serene if understated in midfield, used the ball cleverly and quietly protected his back three effectively.

Mattéo Guendouzi, 6 – Typically all-action performance, bold and aggressive throughout.

Gerson, 3 – Very quiet overall playing almost as a support striker, had no real impact on the game and looked off the pace.

Konrad de la Fuente, 7 – A real threat with his tricky and direct style, especially early on, and produced a neat assist for OM’s first.

Cengiz Ünder, 7 – Not everything came off for him but terrorised a young Montpellier defence at times in the first half especially and arrived at the back post to start the comeback with a simple finish.

Dimitri Payet, 8 – Superb, classic Payet. Fortunate to see his free-kick slip through the wall but a characteristically nonchalant run and side foot finish won the game after some imaginative play throughout.

Others: Benedetto 5, Henrique 5, Dieng 5.
