In a five part series, GFFN Chief Features Writer Eric Devin names his top five flops of the Ligue 1 2015/16 season. Last but not least, PSG’s Layvin Kurzawa.
Club: PSG
From: AS Monaco
Fee: €25M
Games: 19
Goals: 3
Assists: 5
Widely expected to displace Maxwell upon his arrival, finally delivering on the promise that he displayed during his time with France’s youth squads, Kurzawa’s season has instead been largely a disappointment.
Despite decent attacking statistics, the former Monaco player managed to only feature in barely half of PSG’s matches after his arrival. He butted heads with teammates on more on than one occasion, and was rarely included in the club’s biggest matches.
The recent news that Maxwell, 35 in August, will be retained for another season serves as perhaps the biggest indictment of how the player is viewed, as does his failure to usurp Lucas Digne in the national team picture.
While Kurzawa is still somewhat young at 23, the amount of experience that he has means that maturity must come soon if it ever does.
